Kiewit has a long history serving the North American downstream market. In 1965, Kiewit was awarded a significant scope in the construction of a 1,300-acre petrochemical facility on the banks of the Mississippi River in Louisiana. Since then, Kiewit and its subsidiaries TIC, Cherne, and Ganotec have developed an extensive resume in refining and petrochemicals by providing cost-effective constructability, design, modular fabrication, and direct hire construction on a range of process units including, but not limited to, crude distillation, cokers, and reformers.
In 2008, TIC, a subsidiary of Kiewit, completed installation of a refurbished coker unit that was dismantled by TIC at a California refinery and relocated by Sinclair to Wyoming.?TIC installed a total of eight major systems for this particular project: coker unit, two sulfur recovery units, two amine recovery units, sour water stripper, coke handling system, and 180 ft. flare system. TIC also built the entire project footprint—foundations, paving, structural steel, coker derrick structure, and several decks.
Cherne, a subsidiary of Kiewit, has been working on major projects at the Wood River Refinery since 1997. Most recently, Cherne oversaw construction and construction management for the CORE Project after successful completion of a new hydrocrakcer and ultra light diesel units at this same refinery location.
In addition to site work, Kiewit Offshore Services Fabricated 32 modules weighing 15,000 tons for the CORE Project.
TIC, a subsidiary of Kiewit, performed mechanical installation of two separate, Linde designed and furnished sulfur recovery units in 2006.
Completed in 2010, Kiewit fabricated 80 modules for the crude expansion project in Port Arthur, Texas. A total of 19 barge shipments were made over an 11-month period. Modules were bolted construction consisting of both pipe racks and process units.
TIC, a subsidiary of Kiewit, has completed six projects at the Commerce City Refinery since 1993 including the construction of a water treatment plant, sour crude low sulfur diesel unit, hydrogen unit addition, and diesel hydrotreater unit conversion.
