Ontario Power Generation (OPG) awarded Kiewit-Alarie, a Partnership (KAP), the design-build contract for the redevelopment of the Wawaitin, Sandy Falls and Lower Sturgeon hydroelectric Generating Stations (GS) on the Upper Mattagami River and the Hound Chute GS on the Montreal River.
This 50-megawatt (MW) hydroelectric plant produces a non-consumptive, non-polluting and renewable form of energy for some 7,000 households. Built under an engineer-procure-construct contract, Kiewit completed the project with minimal impacts to the surrounding landscape.
Kiewit developed a1.6 MW battery energy storage system (BESS) located in Kauai, Hawaii. Project scope included site design and system interconnection. The Kiewit team worked with the battery and PCS OEMs to streamline integration efforts ensuring adequacy of the overall design and that safety requirements of the local codes were met. Factory Acceptance Testing of the battery was performed at the PCS OEMs facility prior to shipment to site.?
The Kiewit team consisting of partners from Eastern District, Kiewit Power Constructors, Kiewit Power Engineers, and Mass Electric was awarded the contract to engineer, procure, construct, and start up the Homer City AQCS Project Units 1&2.?
Mass. Electric Construction Co (MEC) installed an 880 KW roof mounted PV system on the Waltham High School in Massachusetts. The scope of work included PV modules- 3080 each LG250 mods; inverters 2 each- Solaron 333kW; an Hb Solar Mounting System (100% ballasted) including ballast; Solar BOS fused Combiner Boxes; Data Acquisition System (DAS); and (8) 200A rated Fusible DC Disconnect.
As part of its commitment to expand fuel diversity, Tennessee Valley Authority replaced its two oldest coal-fired units at the Paradise Fossil Plant with a natural gas-fired power plant. Kiewit was selected as the EPC contractor for the new 3x1 combined-cycle facility, which now generates 1,100 MW of power.
PSE&G selected KHMA, a joint venture comprised of Kiewit Power Constructors, Henkels & McCoy, and Aldridge Electric, to construct the Bergen-Linden Corridor Overhead project. Designed to replace the existing double circuit 138kV transmission system from Bergen to Linden with a double circuit 345kV transmission system, the project will eliminate electric system capacity issues in northern New Jersey and provide better power quality in the region. PJM Interconnection determined the new transmission system was necessary to ensure reliable electric service, eliminate anticipated transmission constraints, and respond to PJM/Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) mandated infrastructure expansion. The KHMA team is responsible for removing the existing transmission lines and lattice structures, clearing, temporary access roads and bridges, erosion and sedimentation controls, foundation installation (drilled piers and vibratory caissons), steel pole erection, hardware and insulator installation, conductor, shield wire stringing, and fiber optic splicing.
The Antelope Station Grid Switching Expansion Project will allow an existing generating station to switch between the SPP and ERCOT grid systems. Kiewit Engineering and Design is designing the switch to a grid configuration consisting of a single-breaker, double-bus.
The Kiewit and Henkels & McCoy team (Kh&m) was selected to construct the New Jersey portion of the new Susquehanna to Roseland Electric Reliability Transmission Project.
