DART ORANGE LINE EXPANSION?- Irving, Texas
In December 2008, Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) selected Kiewit, Stacy & Witbeck, Reyes, Parsons (KSWRP), a joint venture, to design and construct the approximately nine-mile, six station LTR from Bachman Station on the Green Line in northwest Dallas to Belt Line Road, located south of DFW Airport.
The DART Orange Line Expansion runs from the previously constructed Green Line (Archer Western) to DFW Airport property. The Orange Line starts in the city of Dallas and finishes in the city of Irving. The project is split into two sections, Irving-1 (I-1) and Irving-2 (I-2).
The project includes direct fixation, embedded, and ballasted track. There are eight bridges totaling approximately 14,000’. The longest of which is the Trinity River Bridge at nearly 7,500’. The Trinity River Bridge spans over a major intersection in Dallas, Interstate 35, two levees, and the Trinity River. The Trinity River Bridge includes the use of the longest pre-cast concrete girders ever erected in Texas. Once erected the beams were “spliced” and created a span of 260’ over the west levee of the Trinity River. Most of the structure work was performed at night as to not negatively affect the public or daily operations of businesses on the alignment.
Work includes 10 bridges for a total of 13,600 ft. Bridges include crossing the Trinity River (approximately 8,100 ft. long) and a bridge across SH114 (approximately 4,100 ft.). This project also includes 56,900 TF of ballasted track, 24,700 TF of direct fixation track, and 10,000 TF of embedded track, 7 passenger stations, 13 at-grade crossings and 5 traction power substations.
