UPRR Toyah Subdivision?-?Monahans/Odessa/Midland, Texas
This $19.6 million project included 120,000 CY of excavation and construction of nearly 90,000 TF of interchange, siding, and yard tracks spread between four project sites across 60 miles of West Texas for the Union Pacific Railroad.
Kiewit supplied hourly rates for various pieces of construction equipment identified in the bid form as well as pieces identified by the on-site teams as pieces that would be used to support the UPPRR track and signal crews. Some of the support activities that the rates were used and invoiced for including removal of any turn out and mainline track materials that remained after UPPRR installed the new turnouts into the live mainline track. In addition, Kiewit worked with the freight line’s signal crews as crossing arms and signal houses were relocated once a new grade crossing was installed. These activities required close coordination between Kiewit and UPRR as this work was done under accelerated closure windows, so as not to affect either freight traffic or the traveling public. Having these established rates made the administration of the contract much more efficient.
